The Greater Manchester Alliance for the Gifted (GMAG) was founded in 2005 by a group of parents concerned about their gifted childrens education. They found that through sharing experiences and information, they could improve their parenting skills and learn to advocate for their children. They knew that it was important to reach out to all parents, educators and members of the community to share what they had learned about parenting and educating gifted children.
The founders researched parent groups, education theory and gifted children and continue to learn from every parent that they help. They have compiled extensive resources and look to forge new ground in advocating for the appropriate education of gifted children.
The Greater Manchester Alliance for the Gifted is an organization whose purpose is:
- to reach out to all parents with gifted children needing support and connecting them with resources
- to encourage communication about gifted children between parents, educators and the community
- to organize enrichment activities for gifted and talented children that will encourage intellectual, social and emotional development
- to enhance awareness of educational issues facing gifted/talented children and their families
- to assist families and educators in developing and implementing appropriately advanced programs for gifted/talented students
- to support the implementation of Gifted and Talented programs within the public school systems
We hope to be a valued source of both information and support in the community for parents and educators of gifted and talented children for years to come.
