My child is bored in school. How can I get more challenging work for them?

The most important thing is to develop a good working relationship with your child's teacher. Most teachers realize that gifted children need accelerated work, but they don't have the time to find that work. Your child's teacher may be very pleased if you are willing to help by finding resources. With the right resources, your child's teacher may be able to compact and enrich the curriculum. It might be right for your child to accelerate in a particular subject area. Could it be possible that they need to accelerate an entire grade or two? Are there any schools in the Manchester area that are good for gifted children?

What constitutes a good school differs from child to child and family to family. There are both public schools in Manchester, some with the pilot gifted and talented program, and private schools. Many families find that alternative education models such as Montessori, Waldorf or homeschooling work well for their gifted children. Feel free to join our message board to ask our group members about their experiences. I'm sure they'll be glad to tell you what worked or didn't work for their child.
